Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar elected as new JD(U) President, Lalan Singh resigns

Several party leaders have recently criticised Singh’s leadership while interacting with Nitish Kumar. 

At the party’s national executive meeting in Delhi on Friday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was elected as Janata Dal (United) president. According to party leader K C Tyagi, Lalan Singh, the incumbent president, stepped down and proposed his name.

Decisions made in the executive meeting will probably be ratified at the party’s later-in-the-day national council meeting.

According to sources, the majority of the party’s prominent leaders believed that Kumar should lead the organization at this key time ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as he is one of the party’s most prominent leaders.

The party is a member of INDIA bloc, the opposition. According to the sources, several party leaders have recently criticised Singh’s leadership while interacting with Nitish Kumar.
