Sunil Gavaskar, a great batsman and former captain of India cricket team, recently posted a photo of himself at Sachin Railway Station, which is close to Surat in Gujarat. The 74 year old expressed his happiness at finding a station bearing the name of his “favourite person”. What foresight of those in the last century to name a railway station near Surat after one of the all-time greats of our game and my favourite cricketer but more importantly my favourite person. Gavaskar wrote in a post after sharing the photo.

In Surat, Gujarat, there is a tiny train station called Sachin Railway Station. It’s three platforms are located on the main line that links Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Three hours after it was shared, his post has recieved many comments and more than 31000 likes.

Gavaskar, a notable component of India’s 1983 World Cup winning team, formerly held the record for most Test century scores. The Mumbaikar, who finished his career with 34 hundreds and 45 half-centuries after amassing more than 10,000 runs in red-ball cricket, called it quits.
