Ram Nath Kovind: “One Nation, One Election In National Interest, Not For Any Party”

Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh: The committee tasked with investigating the feasibility of “one nation, one election” is led by former president Ram Nath Kovind, who stated that conducting simultaneous elections serves the interests of the country as a whole and is unrelated to any one political party. The former president told reporters on Monday night that “holding simultaneous elections will be beneficial for the public as the revenue saved will be used for development work.”

“This is in the best interests of the country, so I am asking all political parties to work together. It has nothing to do with any political party,” he emphasized.
Earlier this year, the government established the high-level committee consisting of eight members, led by Mr. Kovind.

The previous president stated, “Many committees such as the parliamentary committee, Niti Aayog, Election Commission of India, and others have said that the tradition of ‘one nation one election’ needs to be revived in the country.”

“A committee has been established by the administration with me serving as its head. “We are collaborating with the populace and intend to provide recommendations to the administration on how to revive this custom,” he declared.

“I’ve also gotten in touch with every national party that has registered to ask for recommendations. They were all in favor of it at one point. As this is in the best interests of the country, we kindly ask all political parties to collaborate,” he stated. “One nation, one election” will benefit the party in power at the center, whether it be the BJP, the Congress, or any other party, Mr. Kovind asserted, without naming any specific political party. Discrimination does not exist.” According to Mr. Kovind, the general public will gain the most since the money saved will be used for development projects.

The committee decided to invite recognized national parties, state-level political parties, parties with representatives in parliament, and other recognized state parties to discuss the idea of holding simultaneous elections nationwide during its first meeting in September. The panel also discussed the committee’s procedures.

Furthermore, it stated that the Law Commission of India will be invited by the Committee to share their ideas and opinions on the matter. The idea of holding state assembly and Lok Sabha elections concurrently has been actively promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi throughout the years, and the government’s determination to have elections soon is demonstrated by the decision to assign Ram Nath Kovind the responsibility of investigating it.
