What is now known about the automobile explosion at the US-Canada border by a couple from New York

Law enforcement sources report that a couple from New York perished in a horrific collision at a border crossing close to Niagara Falls on Wednesday morning. After declaring that it had not discovered any proof of terrorism, the FBI turned over the investigation to local officials. Former NYC Governor Kathy Hochul said that the accident was not a terrorist attack.

One of the four bridges in the area that connects the US and Canada, the Rainbow Bridge, was the scene of the incident at roughly 11:30 a.m. According to CNN, the couple was traveling at a high rate of speed when they struck a guardrail and a curb, which caused the Bentley to go skyward and explode inside a screening booth.

What is currently known:

1.On Wednesday morning, a car crashed and exploded near the Rainbow Bridge border crossing, killing a couple from New York.

-The deceased man was supposed to attend a KISS show in Canada, but it was postponed. Then, he and his spouse visited a casino in the US. They had just exited the casino when the crash happened.

2.According to the FBI, there were no explosives or signs of terrorism at the location.

-In a statement released on Wednesday night, the FBI’s Buffalo field office stated that no explosives had been discovered at the location and that it had not established any link to terrorism. The organization declared that it was handing the case off to the local police for a traffic investigation.

-Governor Hochul reported seeing “absolutely surreal” accident footage.

Hochul stated at a news conference on Wednesday night, “I want to be very, very clear to Americans and New Yorkers: At this time there is no indication of a terrorist attack.”

According to Hochul, “two people died in the vehicle,” which belonged to a citizen of western New York.

3. Travel arrangements were thrown off on both sides of the border by the incident, which also prompted a security alert.

-A significant security alert was triggered by the explosion on both sides of the border.

On one of the busiest days of the year, the disaster also caused many people’s travel plans to be disrupted. Three of the four bridges that span the US and Canada near Niagara Falls were reopened on Wednesday after being briefly shuttered. The Rainbow Bridge is still closed.

Other officials in New York and Washington, DC, were also briefed on the situation, along with the leaders of both nations. As a precaution, a few local government offices on the US side were evacuated.

International flights were temporarily halted at Buffalo Niagara International Airport but were later restarted. According to a Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority spokesman, bomb-sniffing dogs inspected every automobile that entered the airport.

4. The crash’s cause is unknown, and the inquiry is still on.

Regarding the passengers in the car, Hochul stated on Wednesday that “there are a lot of unanswered questions.” According to her, it was unclear if the collision was the result of an accident or a deliberate act.

Additionally, Amtrak halted a portion of its route that links Toronto and New York.
