Josh Inglis smashes a joint-fastest century
India and the Men from Down Under resumed their rivalry in the shortest format on Thursday, four days after India’s match against Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023 final. Josh Inglis, a wicketkeeper-batter, showed off his strength in the first Twenty20 international of the five-match series, having just played for Australia in the World Cup-winning team against India. The Australian wicketkeeper-battler, who was batting at number three, produced an incredible stroke to help the visitors reach a difficult score.
Inglis, the premier batsman, and veteran Steve Smith attacked the Indian bowlers in the first game of the series at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. With just 29 balls, Inglis hit his first-ever half-century. The Australian batsman made history in the shortest format of the game by scoring his maiden century in the next eighteen balls.
Inglis tied the record for the fastest century by an Australian in men’s T20I. In just 47 balls, Australia’s gloveman scored his first T20I century. In terms of the fastest T20I century against India, India is ranked second. The 28-year-old moved up to the second rank in the exclusive list of the fastest century-makers against India in the shortest format, surpassing players like Glenn Maxwell,Evin Lewis, and Rilee Rossouw. David Miller, who scored an incredible century in Guwahati against India in just 46 balls, is only one wicket behind Inglis.

Yorkshire-born Inglis has represented Australia in 13 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) and 18 One-Day Internationals (ODIs). At R. Premadasa Stadium in 2022, the Australian wicketkeeper-batsman made his debut in an ODI against Sri Lanka. Last year, he made his debut in a Twenty20 international match against the same opponents. Cricket Australia (CA) awarded Inglis a national contract a year ago.
