Jerusalem, Sep 1: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Hamas of derailing a potential ceasefire. This follows the discovery of six hostages’ bodies in a Gaza Strip tunnel.
In a video statement posted on X, Netanyahu condemned Hamas for refusing to negotiate. He vowed to hold them accountable. He expressed condolences to the victims’ families and praised the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet for their rescue efforts.
Netanyahu said, “Whoever murdered our abductees does not want a deal.” He added, “We will hunt them down and hold them accountable.” He stressed that Israel would not rest until justice is achieved.
The IDF announced the recovery of six hostages’ bodies from a tunnel in Rafah, Gaza. The victims included Hersh Goldberg, Eden Yerushalmi, Carmel Gat, Almog Sarusi, Alex Lubnov, and Ori Danino.
The discovery has triggered widespread protests in Israel. The Hostages and Missing Families Forum has called for demonstrations against the government.
Netanyahu criticized Hamas for rejecting a May 27, 2023, hostage release deal and a revised proposal on August 16. He warned that Hamas’s October 7 attack, which killed 1,200 people and took 251 hostages, highlights the ongoing threat.
