US Urges India, Pakistan Not To Escalate Tensions As Security Concerns Rise

In the wake of the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has urged both India and Pakistan not to escalate tensions further.

His message, which is being conveyed to Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, reflects the growing international concern about the situation.

Rubio plans to follow up with direct calls to the foreign ministers of both nations in the coming days.

Additionally, the US is encouraging other world leaders to take a similar stance in urging restraint.

US Diplomatic Efforts For De-Escalation

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce highlighted that the US is engaging both countries at various levels to prevent further escalation.

While details of these engagements remain undisclosed, the diplomatic push aims to ensure that both nations focus on de-escalating the situation rather than intensifying it.

India’s Response & Military Readiness

The US statement comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi granted the Indian Armed Forces complete operational freedom to decide on the nature and timing of India’s response.

This decision followed a high-level meeting that PM Modi chaired, which included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and the chiefs of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The meeting underscored India’s determination to act decisively in response to the attack, which resulted in significant casualties, including 25 Indian citizens.

US Support For India

In a show of solidarity, US leaders have expressed their support for India’s efforts to bring the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack to justice.

US President Donald Trump had also reached out to PM Modi following the incident, reaffirming America’s commitment to supporting India in its fight against terrorism.

Furthermore, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard voiced support on social media, offering US assistance to ‘hunt down’ those responsible for the attack.

This latest development comes amid increasing concerns over cross-border terrorism, with India’s leadership signalling that its response may extend beyond just punishing the perpetrators.

There is a growing indication that India may take action against those who back terrorism, potentially targeting elements within Pakistan.

As tensions rise, the global community, led by the US, is calling for calm and urging both India and Pakistan to prioritise dialogue over conflict.

International Reactions & The Way Forward

With the situation rapidly evolving, world leaders are watching closely.

The US has been vocal in advocating for restraint and peace, understanding the broader implications of any escalation between the two nuclear-armed nations.

While the diplomatic channels remain open, the outcome hinges on the decisions made by India, Pakistan, and the global community in the coming days.
