US President Trump Links Greenland Push To Nobel Peace Prize Snub

US President Donald Trump has linked his pursuit of Greenland to his disappointment at not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. He communicated this in a letter to Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, which officials disclosed over the weekend.

The correspondence was first reported by PBS.

“Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America,” President Trump wrote.

“I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you!” Trump added.

“President Trump believes Greenland is a strategically important location that is critical from the standpoint of national security, and he is confident Greenlanders would be better served if protected by the United States from modern threats in the Arctic region,” said Anna Kelly, White House Deputy Press Secretary.

Trump’s letter responded to a previous message from Store, co-signed by Finland’s President Alexander Stubb.

The two European leaders urged de-escalation and requested direct talks with Trump, emphasising the need for unity in the face of global challenges.

“As regards the Nobel Peace Prize, I have on several occasions clearly explained to Trump what is well known,” he said.

Dispute Over Greenland Intensifies

The exchange has intensified the dispute over Greenland. Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to acquire the island and threatened tariffs on Denmark and other European countries opposing US control.

Greenland, with a population of around 57,000, has been part of the Danish Kingdom for more than three centuries, and Denmark insists that its residents will decide their own future.

Local opposition is growing, with hundreds of Greenlanders marching through Nuuk, chanting slogans such as ‘No means no’ and ‘Greenland is already great’.

Denmark has reinforced its presence, deploying soldiers in Nuuk and sending a warship capable of navigating ice along the coast.

A high-level meeting last week in Washington, involving the US, Denmark, and Greenland and hosted by Vice President JD Vance, failed to resolve.

Following the talks, the Trump administration announced that ‘technical discussions on the acquisition of Greenland’ would begin, deepening concerns among Greenland, Denmark, and European allies.
