United States Provided Canada With Information About The Murder Of Nijjar

Western-allied officials stated that US intelligence services provided evidence that caused Canada to hold India accountable for the death of Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

However, the most definitive intelligence on the death was gathered by Canada, according to two allied officials who spoke to the newspaper on the condition of anonymity.

According to US Ambassador to Canada David Cohen, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s charge against India was based on shared intelligence among Five Eyes partners.

The Five Eyes information-sharing network, which includes the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand in addition to Canada, was established in 1946. According to allied sources, the US was unaware of the scheme or evidence indicating India’s involvement in it until after operatives killed Nijjar, and if they had known, they would have immediately alerted Ottawa under the intelligence services’ duty to warn theory.

They also claimed that Canadian officials had warned Nijjar but had not informed him that he was the target of an Indian government plot.

The New York Times contacted a White House official, who declined to comment. According to the article, US authorities were hesitant to discuss the death because the US wanted to strike a delicate balance with its partners.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has encouraged India to work with Canada to seek accountability for Nijjar’s death.

Blinken told media on the fringes of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday that the US has been in contact with both India, with which it is strengthening relations, and Canada, a close partner.

“We want to see accountability. And it’s important that the investigation runs its course and leads to that result”, Blinken continued.

After asserting that Indian operatives were involved in the assassination of Canadian citizen Nijjar on Canadian soil, Trudeau called on India to cooperate with the inquiry on Thursday.

He stated that Canada shared proof of Nijjar’s death with India many weeks ago. Trudeau’s accusation sparked a diplomatic battle between India and Canada, with New Delhi dismissing Ottawa’s claims as absurd and motivated, prompting expulsions of top diplomats and travel advisories.
