Two Jewish Pedestrians Injured In London Knife Attack; PM Keir Starmer Raises Security Concerns

Two Jewish pedestrians were injured in a knife attack in north-west London, in what British counter-terrorism police have classified as a terror-related incident. Authorities said the assault is part of a troubling pattern of violence targeting the Jewish community in the city.

The attack took place in the Golders Green area, where a man armed with a knife allegedly attempted to target Jewish individuals at random.

Community patrol group Shomrim reported that the suspect was moving along a busy road, attempting to stab passersby.

Officers responding to the scene were also attacked before subduing the suspect using a Taser.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody. Two victims, aged 76 and 34, sustained stab injuries and are receiving treatment in hospital.

Officials from Counter Terrorism Policing stated that the suspect has a known history of violent behaviour and mental health concerns.

Keir Starmer expressed serious concern following an emergency security meeting. He signalled increased efforts to ensure safety for the Jewish community and tackle antisemitism.

King Charles III, currently on an overseas visit, has been briefed on the situation, while London Mayor Sadiq Khan reiterated that antisemitism has no place in society.

The incident comes amid a series of recent attacks, including arson targeting Jewish-linked sites in the same area. Authorities have made multiple arrests in related cases, including a petrol bomb attack on a synagogue earlier this month.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood confirmed that additional police deployments have been made to protect vulnerable communities as investigations continue.
