Trump Cautions Iran On Hormuz; Energy Grid If Agreement Not Finalised

US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Iran on Monday. He said the United States could target key energy infrastructure if talks fail and the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.

At the same time, he indicated that diplomatic discussions are progressing.

Donald Trump said that Washington is engaging in serious negotiations with what he described as a more pragmatic leadership in Iran.

He expressed optimism that they could agree soon and noted that they have already made significant progress.

However, he cautioned that failure to secure a deal would prompt decisive action. He stated that the United States could strike Iran’s electric power facilities, oil fields, and Kharg Island.

He also indicated that desalination plants might be considered as potential targets.

Trump asserted that such facilities have not been deliberately targeted so far.

He described any potential strike as a response to past actions attributed to Iran’s previous regime, which he accused of prolonged aggression.

The remarks reflect an escalation in rhetoric, directly linked to ongoing negotiations and the status of maritime access through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route.

Separately, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned Iran against attempting to control the waterway or impose charges on international shipping. He stated that such actions would not be permitted.

Rubio emphasised that a diplomatic resolution remains achievable within weeks.

He highlighted the possibility of meeting strategic objectives through negotiations rather than prolonged conflict.
