India, Russia Reaffirm Strategic Partnership, Discuss Global And Regional Matters In New Delhi Talks

India and Russia conducted Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi on Monday, during which they assessed their Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership and deliberated on a range of bilateral, regional, and global matters.

Vikram Misri and Andrey Rudenko led the discussions, underscoring continued diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “India-Russia Foreign Office Consultations, co-chaired by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, were held in New Delhi today.”

The dialogue highlighted the value of regular consultations in strengthening cooperation across sectors.

Earlier in March, India and Russia organised the 7th United Nations Consultations in New Delhi. During these talks, officials addressed key issues linked to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), including counter-terrorism, peacekeeping missions, and reforms of the UNSC.

Both sides also outlined their respective priorities within the United Nations system, emphasising the need for coordinated multilateral efforts.

EAM Jaishankar and Lavrov Hold Talks

On March 11, S Jaishankar spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov over the phone.

“A good telecon with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov of Russia. Shared our assessments on the West Asia conflict and related diplomatic efforts. Also took stock of our bilateral cooperation agenda,” Jaishankar posted on X.

The two leaders also evaluated progress in bilateral cooperation and discussed avenues to deepen ties further.

These exchanges took place amid rising tensions in West Asia following joint military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran in late February. In response, Iran carried out drone and missile attacks targeting US-linked assets and allied positions across the region.

The consultations follow recent high-level interactions, including Russian President Vladimir Putin’s State visit to India in December. During the visit, he held detailed discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking 25 years of the India-Russia Strategic Partnership.

The visit concluded with the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, where both sides outlined priorities in sectors such as energy, nuclear cooperation, trade, defence, and technology.

The ongoing engagement reflects both countries’ intent to strengthen collaboration and jointly address global challenges. As international dynamics continue to shift, India and Russia are likely to sustain close coordination while expanding their bilateral relationship.
