Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday delivered a sharp critique of Maoist doctrine in the Lok Sabha. He said that the belief in gaining power through armed struggle ignores democratic values and public welfare.
HM Amit Shah asserted that Maoists focus solely on spreading their ideology among tribal communities to seize authority.
He added that their framework excludes any meaningful discussion on governance, development, or progress.
HM Shah condemned those who defend Maoist violence under the guise of justice.
He questioned how individuals who defy the Constitution and target civilians can equate themselves with freedom icons like Bhagat Singh and Birsa Munda. He termed such comparisons unacceptable.
HM Amit Shah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating Maoism through a dual approach of firm security measures and accelerated development.
He paid homage to security personnel and civilians who lost their lives combating left-wing extremism.
Explaining its origins, Shah said that post-Independence India faced resource constraints and limited administrative reach in remote tribal regions.
Amit Shah noted that Maoists exploited these gaps, especially in central tribal belts.
He highlighted that areas such as Naxalbari and Bastar became centres of extremism due to low literacy, weak governance, and a lack of counter-narratives.
HM Amit Shah observed that regions like Saharsa in Bihar and Ballia in Uttar Pradesh, despite similar economic conditions, did not experience comparable insurgency.
Shah reiterated plans to expand infrastructure, education, connectivity, and welfare initiatives in affected zones.
HM Amit Shah urged Maoists to surrender arms, stating that the government engages only with those who renounce violence.
