On Monday, Moscow stated that if Kyiv’s forces used British-supplied long-range missiles to attack Russia, it would launch strikes targeting UK military facilities inside Ukraine and elsewhere.
The Russian foreign ministry issued the statement after British Foreign Secretary David Cameron declared during a visit to Ukraine that Kyiv has the right to strike back at Russia.
He went on to say that London did not impose caveats on how Ukraine’s military used weapons supplied by Britain.
The Russian foreign ministry claimed that it had called the UK’s ambassador in Moscow, Nigel Casey, and warned him that if Ukrainian forces used British-supplied weapons to attack Russia, Moscow would target any UK military facility and equipment on Ukrainian territory and beyond.
“The Ambassador was urged to reflect on the inevitable catastrophic consequences of such hostile steps by London and to immediately refute in the strongest and most unequivocal manner the bellicose provocative statements by the head of the Foreign Office”, the statement reads.
Russia previously announced that it was planning additional nuclear weapons drills, citing ‘threats’ given by Western leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and British authorities.
The Russian military is now occupying numerous Ukrainian territories, which the Kremlin claims to have annexed and are now part of Russian sovereignty.
