Qatar Confirms Personnel Departures From Al Udeid Air Base As Regional Tensions Rise

Qatar on Wednesday confirmed that some personnel have departed the US-operated Al Udeid Air Base due to escalating regional tensions.

The country’s International Media Office (IMO) issued a statement addressing media reports on the development.

The IMO clarified that the departures form part of precautionary measures linked to the evolving security situation in the region. It stressed that Qatar continues to prioritise the safety and security of its citizens and residents.

Authorities have also strengthened steps to protect critical infrastructure and military installations.

The confirmation followed reports suggesting that the United States has begun withdrawing some personnel from its military facilities across the Middle East.

Reuters earlier reported that Washington initiated the move as a preventive step as instability in the region increased. Xinhua later cited the report.

Tensions have intensified in the region due to ongoing protests in Iran and strong statements from US officials.

Several American leaders have warned of possible intervention, further fuelling uncertainty.

Iran’s Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh said Tehran would respond decisively to any military attack. He warned that Iran would defend itself with full force if provoked.

Media reports also indicated that Iran cautioned neighbouring countries hosting US forces.

Tehran reportedly warned that American military bases could become targets if Washington intervenes in Iran’s internal situation.

On Tuesday, Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani urged the United Nations to condemn the United States. He accused Washington of inciting unrest and threatening the use of force.

In a formal letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Security Council President Abukar Dahir Osman, Iravani criticised US President Donald Trump. He cited Trump’s social media post as an open call for violence and political destabilisation.

Meanwhile, the US virtual embassy in Iran advised American citizens to leave the country, citing security concerns.
