Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the growing warmth in India–Malaysia relations, describing the partnership as one rooted in trust, friendship and shared aspirations.
Sharing glimpses from his ceremonial welcome at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya, the Prime Minister said the bilateral relationship continues to deepen through mutual respect and cooperation.
Posting on X, PM Modi wrote that India and Malaysia are strengthening their partnership across multiple fronts, setting the tone for his two-day visit marked by high-level engagements, cultural exchanges and outreach to the Indian diaspora.
Earlier, the Prime Minister underlined the strong cultural connection between the two nations, particularly the contribution of the Tamil community in Malaysia.
He lauded students from the Malaysia Hindu Sangam who recited Tirumurai devotional songs, praising the community for preserving and promoting their heritage over generations.
The moment reflected the deep civilisational and people-to-people ties anchoring bilateral relations.
During his visit, PM Modi announced that India will soon open a new Consulate in Malaysia, a move aimed at strengthening diplomatic engagement and enhancing services for the Indian community.
The announcement came during a grand Indian community reception titled ‘Selamat Datang Modiji’ in Kuala Lumpur.
The event featured a vibrant cultural programme, with 800 artists performing traditional Indian dances, earning a place in the Malaysian Book of Records for the largest such performance in the country.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi thanked the Indian diaspora for the warm welcome and acknowledged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s gracious presence.
He praised the community’s contribution to Malaysia’s development and reaffirmed India’s commitment to the welfare of its nationals abroad.
