Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the European Round Table for Industry in Gothenburg on Sunday and said India-Europe ties are built on democracy, trust and shared values beyond economic cooperation.
The event brought together Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and leading industry representatives from India and Europe.
Hosted by the Volvo Group, the meeting focused on strengthening trade and industrial cooperation.
PM Modi welcomed the India-EU Free Trade Agreement, calling it a major opportunity for trade, technology and resilient supply chains. Referring to von der Leyen’s remarks, he described the pact as the ‘mother of all deals’. He also invited European companies to expand investments in India across AI, semiconductors, telecom, clean energy, healthcare, biotechnology and advanced manufacturing sectors.
Prime Minister Modi also emphasised India’s strong digital public infrastructure, expanding manufacturing ecosystem and position as the world’s third-largest start-up ecosystem.
Highlighting India’s economic reforms, PM Modi said initiatives such as Production Linked Incentive schemes, ease of doing business reforms and foreign direct investment liberalisation had strengthened India’s manufacturing and innovation capabilities. He added that India offered stability, large-scale demand and a skilled workforce, making it one of the world’s most attractive investment destinations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for stronger India-Europe cooperation in green energy, digital infrastructure, AI and resilient supply chains. He proposed an annual India-Europe CEO Round Table and greater collaboration in education, research and talent mobility to strengthen long-term strategic ties.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of India and Europe towards sustainable growth, innovation and deeper cooperation.
