MEA Highlights Six Key Outcomes From PM Narendra Modi’s Sweden Visit

The Ministry of External Affairs outlined six major outcomes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s successful visit to Sweden during his ongoing Europe-West Asia tour.

The visit focused on strengthening India-Sweden relations across strategic, technological, economic and cultural sectors.

One of the most significant developments was the elevation of India-Sweden relations to a Strategic Partnership.

Both countries adopted a Joint Statement and Joint Action Plan for 2026–2030 aimed at strengthening cooperation in security, economic resilience, emerging technologies and sustainability.

The partnership will focus on strategic dialogue, economic collaboration, trusted connectivity and joint efforts related to people, planet and resilience.

The second major outcome was the launch of the India-Sweden Joint Innovation Partnership 2.0.

Under this initiative, both nations agreed to establish a virtual India-Sweden Joint Science and Technology Centre to enhance cooperation in artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum computing, critical minerals, life sciences and sustainable technologies.

The partnership will also strengthen collaboration in renewable energy, smart cities, energy storage and resilient water systems.

The Ministry also highlighted the decision to jointly develop the India-Sweden Technology and Artificial Intelligence Corridor.

The initiative will strengthen cooperation in AI, digital transformation and advanced technologies while boosting collaboration between industries, start-ups and research institutions in India and Sweden.

Both countries also agreed to expand trade and investment over the next five years, support the ‘Make in India’ initiative and improve trade facilitation and intellectual property cooperation.

The visit further resulted in the launch of an SME and Start-up Platform and the ‘Tagore-Sweden’ Lecture Series to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and cultural ties.

Earlier, PM Narendra Modi met Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Gothenburg to discuss cooperation in trade, technology and innovation.
