PM Modi Receives Guard Of Honour During Seychelles State Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a formal Guard of Honour at the State House in Victoria on Sunday during his official State Visit to Seychelles.

President Patrick Herminie personally welcomed the Prime Minister before both leaders participated in the ceremonial proceedings.

After the national anthems of India and Seychelles were played, the two leaders inspected the ceremonial parade and acknowledged the military salute, reflecting the strong diplomatic relationship shared by both nations.

Earlier during the visit, Prime Minister Modi presented the indigenously manufactured Fast Patrol Vessel ‘PS LESPWAR’ to President Herminie at the Seychelles Coast Guard Base in Victoria. He also handed over six ambulances, ten utility vehicles, and five laser-guided boats to support Seychelles’ maritime security, emergency response capabilities, and development programmes.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the assistance aligns with India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and further reinforces the comprehensive defence partnership between the two countries while promoting security and stability across the Indian Ocean.

Prime Minister Modi and President Herminie also planted a rare ‘Coco de Mer’ sapling at the Seychelles National Botanical Garden, symbolising the enduring friendship between India and Seychelles.

The Prime Minister later attended a colourful cultural programme featuring the traditional Seychellois ‘moutya’ dance.

Members of the Indian diaspora from Kutch, Gujarat, also presented the folk dance ‘Nrutya’, celebrating their cultural roots and longstanding ties with India.

Prime Minister Modi travelled to Seychelles as the Guest of Honour for the country’s Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations. His second State Visit to the island nation follows President Patrick Herminie’s visit to India earlier this year, reflecting the steady expansion of bilateral cooperation across defence, development, culture and regional security.
