Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin were spotted walking together on Monday at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, passing by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who appeared to be standing apart.
As PM Modi and President Putin spoke animatedly, Sharif remained on his own with a stern look, observing the two leaders as they moved towards the family photo session with other heads of state.
This scene followed earlier visuals of PM Modi sharing a light moment with Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Putin, which drew attention on social media for the informal warmth displayed by the three leaders.
The photographs showed PM Modi, President Xi and President Putin smiling and chatting, evoking memories of a similar frame captured during the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia.
In the Tianjin images, President Putin walked on the left, PM Modi in the middle and President Xi on the right, with the three strolling casually before posing for the official SCO group photo.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Interactions in Tianjin continue! Exchanging perspectives with President Putin and President Xi during the SCO Summit.”
Another post featured a separate image with Putin, showing the two leaders greeting each other with a hug and handshake.
PM Modi captioned it, “Always a delight to meet President Putin!”
These photos surfaced shortly before PM Modi and President Putin’s walk past Sharif during the summit proceedings.
The development comes in the shadow of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, where The Resistance Front, a Lashkar-e-Taiba-linked outfit based in Pakistan, killed 26 civilians.
