PM Modi Offers Prayers At Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple; Pays Tribute To Mahatma Gandhi In Seychelles

Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced Monday’s programme in Seychelles with prayers at the Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple before visiting Peace Park to honour Mahatma Gandhi with a floral tribute.

Large numbers of members of the Indian community gathered at both venues to welcome the Prime Minister, waving the Tricolour and chanting patriotic slogans.

PM Modi also greeted children who had assembled to receive him and spent time interacting with them.

Ahead of the Prime Minister’s arrival, members of the Indian diaspora said they had enthusiastically prepared for the visit and organised cultural performances to mark the occasion.

Several community members expressed pride at welcoming the Indian leader during the celebrations of Seychelles’ 50th National Day.

Some also voiced hope that India would continue supporting infrastructure improvements at the Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple, reflecting the close cultural relationship between the two countries.

The Prime Minister attended Seychelles’ National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour on Sunday after arriving in the country at the invitation of President Patrick Herminie.

During the visit, Seychelles presented him with the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’, the nation’s highest honour, in recognition of his contribution to environmental conservation and sustainable development.

PM Modi also addressed the National Assembly and held talks with President Herminie on expanding cooperation across a range of sectors.

The Ministry of External Affairs said India and Seychelles enjoy a long-standing relationship founded on shared history, cultural links and vibrant people-to-people connections. It added that Seychelles occupies a key place in India’s MAHASAGAR vision for the Indian Ocean Region and its broader engagement with the Global South.
