PM Modi Meets Slovak PM Robert Fico During Historic Bratislava Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Bratislava on Monday to review bilateral relations and discuss measures to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Before the formal talks commenced, Prime Minister Fico received PM Modi with a warm welcome. The Indian leader also participated in an official ceremonial reception organised in his honour.

PM Modi reached Bratislava on Sunday for a two-day State visit that marks the first journey by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia since the country’s independence in 1993.

Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar welcomed him upon arrival and hosted a traditional Slovak reception ceremony.

The visit underscores the growing importance of India-Slovakia relations and reflects a shared commitment to closer diplomatic and economic engagement.

Before the meeting, PM Modi emphasised that the visit would help both nations reinforce existing ties and explore new areas of cooperation. He expressed confidence that his interactions with Prime Minister Robert Fico and President Peter Pellegrini would produce meaningful outcomes.

India and Slovakia are looking to expand collaboration in sectors such as trade, investment, automobile production, and railway infrastructure, while pursuing broader strategic and economic partnerships.

The Prime Minister conveyed his appreciation to members of the Indian community in Bratislava for the warm reception they extended during his visit. He noted that the enthusiasm of the diaspora reflects the strong connection between the people of both countries.

The visit follows several important diplomatic engagements between India and Slovakia over the past year, including President Droupadi Murmu’s State visit to Slovakia and President Peter Pellegrini’s visit to India.

Through this visit, both countries aim to elevate their partnership, deepen cooperation across multiple sectors, and create new pathways for long-term collaboration.
