Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Tuesday to strengthen the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and expand cooperation across defence, trade, energy, maritime security and other key sectors.
The two leaders discussed enhancing collaboration in defence and maritime partnerships, critical minerals, food security, the digital economy and investment, while reviewing the progress made since India and Indonesia elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.
The meeting reflected both countries’ commitment to deepening strategic and economic ties in the Indo-Pacific region.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi received a grand ceremonial welcome at Jakarta’s Merdeka Palace.
Schoolchildren lined the route, waving the national flags of India and Indonesia as President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Prime Minister Modi with a ceremonial reception.
President Subianto had personally received PM Modi at Jakarta airport on Monday in a rare diplomatic gesture.
Thanking him for the warm welcome, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that their talks would further strengthen bilateral ties.
The two leaders will also visit the UNESCO-listed Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, where they are expected to announce the start of restoration work, further strengthening the cultural ties between India and Indonesia.
Prime Minister Modi said the visit to the Prambanan Temple would further strengthen the shared cultural heritage between India and Indonesia. He also looks forward to interacting with the Indian community during his visit.
This is PM Modi’s fourth visit to Indonesia and his first bilateral visit since both countries elevated their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.
Indonesia is the first stop on his three-nation tour, which also includes Australia and New Zealand.
