Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed the guestbook at the Istana Merdeka, the Presidential Palace of Indonesia, in Jakarta on Tuesday before holding bilateral talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
The symbolic gesture marked the beginning of high-level discussions aimed at strengthening the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The two leaders discussed expanding cooperation in defence, maritime security, energy, trade, critical minerals, food security and the digital economy, while reviewing progress under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi received a grand ceremonial welcome at the Istana Merdeka in Jakarta.
Schoolchildren lined the route waving the national flags of India and Indonesia as President Subianto warmly welcomed the Prime Minister before the two leaders observed the national anthems of both countries.
Sharing photographs of the ceremonial reception on X, Prime Minister Modi thanked President Subianto for the warm welcome at the Presidential Palace.

The Ministry of External Affairs described the visit as a significant step towards advancing the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The MEA said the visit would strengthen cooperation across priority sectors while reinforcing the enduring friendship between India and Indonesia.

President Prabowo Subianto personally received Prime Minister Modi at Jakarta airport on Monday in a rare diplomatic gesture.
Thanking him for the warm welcome, PM Modi said he was ‘touched’ by the gesture and expressed confidence that their talks would further strengthen bilateral ties.
This is Prime Minister Modi’s fourth visit to Indonesia and his first bilateral visit since both countries elevated their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.
Indonesia is the first stop on his three-nation tour, followed by Australia and New Zealand.
