PM Modi Holds Bilateral Talks With Seychelles President Patrick Herminie

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Seychelles President Patrick Herminie at the State House in Victoria on Sunday for extensive discussions aimed at broadening cooperation across multiple sectors.

The leaders also exchanged views on regional developments and international matters of shared interest.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and senior government officials accompanied the Prime Minister during the high-level meeting.

Day One Engagements

Ahead of the bilateral talks, Seychelles accorded Prime Minister Modi a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the State House.

Following the playing of the national anthems, the two leaders inspected the ceremonial contingent and received the traditional military salute, highlighting the cordial relationship between the two countries.

During the first day of his visit, Prime Minister Modi formally presented the indigenously built Fast Patrol Vessel ‘PS LESPWAR’ to President Herminie at the Seychelles Coast Guard Base.

India also supplied six ambulances, ten utility vehicles, and five laser-assisted radial boats to strengthen Seychelles’ maritime surveillance, Exclusive Economic Zone operations, and public infrastructure.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the initiatives reflect India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and reinforce the growing defence partnership, while contributing to peace, security and sustainable development across the Indian Ocean region.

Prime Minister Modi and President Herminie planted a ‘Coco de Mer’ sapling at the Seychelles National Botanical Garden as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two nations.

The Prime Minister also attended cultural performances featuring the traditional Seychellois ‘moutya’ dance and a ‘Nrutya’ presentation by members of the Indian diaspora from Kutch.

Prime Minister Modi is visiting Seychelles as the Guest of Honour for the country’s Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations. His visit, which follows President Herminie’s State Visit to India earlier this year, reflects the shared determination of both countries to expand cooperation in defence, maritime security, development and people-to-people exchanges.
