Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Urges Devotees To Choose Eco-Friendly Clay Ganesh Idols

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged people across the country to choose eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols made by Indian artisans during the upcoming Ganesh Utsav.

Speaking during the 135th episode of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi said the practice would protect the environment while strengthening the spirit of ‘Vocal for Local’ by supporting traditional potters and craftsmen.

PM Modi urged people to choose Ganesh idols made from Indian clay by local artisans and asked idol makers to prioritise clay over Plaster of Paris to promote eco-friendly celebrations and support local craftsmen. He specifically asked people not to purchase idols made from Plaster of Paris, saying clay idols dissolve naturally after immersion and help protect rivers, ponds and other water bodies from pollution.

According to the Prime Minister, choosing traditional clay idols allows devotees to observe religious customs while fulfilling their responsibility towards nature.

Emphasising the importance of supporting indigenous craftsmanship, PM Modi said buying idols from local artisans directly contributes to strengthening India’s traditional crafts sector and reinforces the government’s ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign. He expressed confidence that citizens would make environmentally conscious and nationally beneficial choices during this year’s Ganesh Utsav and future festivals.

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister said the country’s greatest strength lies in the collective efforts of its people. He added that small initiatives undertaken across the nation demonstrate how public participation and determination can bring about meaningful and lasting change.
