Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held bilateral discussions in Bishkek on Monday on the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit.
The leaders exchanged cordial greetings before turning their attention to strengthening relations between India and Armenia.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri attended the meeting alongside other officials.
PM Modi and Pashinyan explored possibilities for expanding engagement across a range of sectors. Their talks included defence, commerce, pharmaceuticals, science and technology, education and cultural exchanges.
The two sides examined opportunities to increase trade, strengthen technological partnerships and promote closer contacts between their people.
The Ministry of External Affairs said PM Modi expressed India’s readiness to work with Armenia to further expand the scope of bilateral relations.
The two leaders assessed important regional and global developments during their conversation. They exchanged perspectives on the situation in West Asia amid continuing tensions in the region.
PM Modi conveyed his appreciation to Armenia for its assistance in evacuating Indian citizens who had been stranded in Iran during the regional crisis.
PM Modi is undertaking a two-day visit to Kyrgyzstan to participate in the 26th SCO Summit and attend the inauguration of the 6th World Nomad Games.
Adylbek Kasymaliev, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, welcomed the Prime Minister after he arrived in Bishkek on Sunday.
Earlier, PM Modi visited the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in the Kyrgyz capital and paid his respects to the Indian independence leader.
The Prime Minister subsequently met members of the Indian community who had assembled at the memorial.
PM Modi inaugurated the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Bishkek during his previous visit to Kyrgyzstan in 2015.
