PM Modi Departs Tashkent For Kyrgyzstan After Two-Day Uzbekistan Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday departed for the Kyrgyz Republic after concluding his productive state visit to Uzbekistan, where India and Uzbekistan elevated their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He was seen off at the airport by Uzbekistan Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit reaffirmed the deep and enduring bonds between India and Uzbekistan.

In Kyrgyzstan, PM Modi will attend the 26th SCO Leadership Summit and continue India’s constructive engagement with the region. He will attend the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games.

Earlier, PM Modi held a fruitful meeting with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent.

The two leaders discussed cooperation in AI, digital public infrastructure, energy, space, healthcare, trade, education, culture and youth exchanges.

At the Kuksaroy Presidential Palace, their wide-ranging discussions covered trade and investment, critical minerals, defence and security, innovation and start-ups, digital public infrastructure and UPI, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, agriculture, education, tourism, space and people-to-people ties.

PM Modi welcomed progress towards a long-term arrangement for the supply of uranium from Uzbekistan to India and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in critical minerals.

The focus on critical resources comes as both countries seek more resilient supply chains. These minerals are, however, essential to clean energy, advanced manufacturing and strategic technologies.

The two leaders set an ambitious target of $5 billion in bilateral trade by 2030. They further called for a business summit to expand economic and investment ties.

Both agreed to establish a Foreign Ministers-led mechanism to advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They, however, decided to raise the existing Inter-Governmental Commission to the Ministerial level.

The talks highlighted long-standing civilisational and people-to-people ties.

PM Modi appreciated the growing popularity of Yoga in Uzbekistan. He earlier attended a Yoga session organised by the Yoga Federation of Uzbekistan.

Marking the 60th anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s passing, PM Modi announced the Lal Bahadur Shastri Scholarship for Hindi language for Uzbek students.
