PM Modi Attends Seychelles’ 50th National Day Celebrations As Guest Of Honour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended Seychelles’ National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour on Sunday during his State visit to the island nation.

The celebrations marked the 50th anniversary of Seychelles’ Independence and featured military parades, cultural performances and ceremonial displays.

Indian defence personnel, including a contingent of the Assam Rifles and the Indian Navy marching band, participated in the parade alongside two Indian Navy warships, highlighting the close defence and maritime ties between the two countries.

PM Modi applauded the performances and stood as the Indian contingent marched past during the ceremony.

Seychellois soldiers also performed a parachute display, descending into the venue carrying the national flag to loud cheers from the crowd.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Seychelles on Saturday at the invitation of President Patrick Herminie.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam also attended the celebrations.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India and Seychelles share a longstanding partnership built on historical, cultural and people-to-people ties.

Seychelles is a key partner in India’s MAHASAGAR vision and its engagement with the Global South. The MEA said the visit would further strengthen bilateral ties.

Earlier, PM Modi received the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’, Seychelles’ highest honour for environmental conservation and sustainable development.

The award recognises PM Modi’s commitment to climate action, green growth and sustainable development.

Accepting the honour, Prime Minister Modi thanked the people and government of Seychelles and dedicated the award to all nations working to combat climate change and protect the environment for future generations.
