Australia Eliminate India From Women’s T20 World Cup With Record Chase At Lord’s

Australia stormed into the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals after pulling off the highest successful run chase in the tournament’s history with a six-wicket victory over India at Lord’s.

Chasing 171, the defending champions crossed the finish line with six balls remaining to end India’s campaign.

The result lifted Australia to eight points alongside South Africa, while India finished third in Group 1 with six points.

India struck early as Renuka Singh removed Georgia Voll in the opening over.

Australia’s batting recovered through useful contributions from Phoebe Litchfield and Beth Mooney before Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner took complete control of the contest.

Perry compiled a composed 56 from 38 deliveries, while Gardner remained unbeaten on 53 off 28 balls. Their partnership dismantled India’s bowling attack and ensured Australia comfortably completed the chase.

Earlier, India posted an imposing 170/4 after captain Harmanpreet Kaur produced a stunning late flourish.

Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma provided a strong platform with a 66-run stand before Harmanpreet accelerated the scoring alongside Jemimah Rodrigues.

The Indian skipper capped her innings with three successive sixes in the final over to reach a rapid half-century before departing for 56 from only 26 balls, giving India a competitive total.

India’s bowlers failed to defend the target as Australia’s experienced middle order handled the pressure with confidence.

The defeat ended India’s hopes of reaching the last four, while Australia advanced with a memorable victory that rewrote the Women’s T20 World Cup record books.
