Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the Netherlands on Friday evening during his ongoing multi-country tour across Europe, with discussions expected to centre on trade, technology, clean energy and strategic cooperation.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit is aimed at advancing the broad partnership between India and the Netherlands. It also seeks to strengthen ties with the Indian community living there.
After landing in Amsterdam, taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Landed in Amsterdam. This visit to the Netherlands is taking place at a time when the free trade agreement between India and the EU has given a significant boost to trade and investment relations. It offers the opportunity to strengthen ties in areas such as semiconductors, water, clean energy, and more.”
“I will hold talks with Prime Minister Rob Jetten and pay a visit to Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. I also look forward to addressing the community during an event on the morning of the 16th,” the post read.
Officials said the discussions will focus on expanding cooperation in areas such as defence, agriculture, maritime connectivity, digital innovation, green hydrogen and climate-related initiatives. The meetings will likely focus prominently on supply chain resilience and investment opportunities.
The Netherlands remains an important economic partner for India in Europe, supported by strong bilateral trade and investment links.
Rotterdam continues to play a major role as a key entry point for Indian goods entering European markets.
PM Modi will likely address members of the Indian diaspora during his stay.
Members of the Indian community in the Netherlands welcomed the visit. They also highlighted how relations between the two countries have strengthened in recent years.
Several members of the Indian community expressed pride in India’s growing global presence. They also said they were looking forward to interacting with the Prime Minister during his visit to the Netherlands.
The visit reflects India’s continued efforts to deepen diplomatic and economic engagement with key European partners. It also highlights a push for closer cooperation across trade, technology, and strategic sectors.
