PM Modi To Hold Key Meetings With Dutch Leadership During Netherlands Visit

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to hold bilateral discussions with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Rob Jetten, during his official visit to the European nation. He will also meet Their Majesties Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima as part of his engagements in the country.

The Prime Minister will likely interact with members of the Indian diaspora and participate in meetings with prominent Dutch business leaders during his stay.

PM Modi will remain in the Netherlands until May 17.

This is the second visit of Prime Minister Modi to the Netherlands, following his earlier trip in 2017.

Officials said the current visit comes at a significant stage in India-Netherlands relations and is aimed at expanding strategic cooperation across several sectors.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in the Netherlands on Friday evening as part of his broader diplomatic tour across Europe. The visit is focused on strengthening India’s economic, technological, and strategic partnerships.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced the Prime Minister’s arrival in a message on X. He said the visit would help deepen the broad-based partnership between India and the Netherlands.

The spokesperson also noted that it would provide an opportunity to engage with the largest Indian diaspora community in mainland Europe.

During a special media briefing ahead of the visit, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Sibi George, said cooperation between the two nations has expanded considerably in recent years. He noted that India and the Netherlands have strengthened collaboration in traditional sectors including trade, investment, water, agriculture and health.

According to him, bilateral engagement has also expanded into strategic sectors. These include innovation, technology, defence, semiconductors, renewable energy, maritime cooperation, security, and education.

Officials highlighted that people-to-people relations continue to play a major role in bilateral ties.

The Netherlands currently hosts more than 90,000 non-resident Indians and persons of Indian origin. The country is also home to over 2,00,000 members of the Suriname Hindustani community.

In addition, nearly 3,500 Indian students are studying at universities and higher education institutions across the Netherlands.

The visit is likely to advance the growing strategic partnership between the two countries. It may also build on the progress achieved through sustained cooperation in recent years.
