Pakistan’s Multi-Mission Communication Satellite, also known as PAKSAT MM1, will be launched on May 30, the country’s space agency announced on Tuesday, describing it as a stepping stone in the transformation of the country into Digital Pakistan.
According to a statement from the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), the launch will take place at China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Centre (XSLC), as part of the National Space Programme 2047.
The PAKSAT MM1, SUPARCO added, was conceived as a joint venture between Suparco and the Chinese aerospace industry, keeping in sight the growing needs of the country in the broad spectrum of communication and connectivity.
Suparco believes that the satellite will play a significant role in Pakistan’s digital revolution and improvement of socioeconomic conditions. The launch event will be broadcast live from the agency’s offices in Islamabad and Karachi.
Pakistan’s lunar satellite, iCube Qamar, has sent its first picture from orbit after three orbits of the moon.
The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) reported that iCube Qamar reached lunar orbit on May 8.
The satellite is equipped with two cameras that capture images of the moon from a distance of 200 kilometres.
In partnership with Shanghai University in China and Pakistan’s national space agency SUPARCO, the Institute of Space Technology (IST) claims to have built and developed the satellite ICUBE-Q.
