Operation Sindoor, India’s Growth And Australia Ties Highlighted By PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday highlighted India’s growing defence capability, economic progress and deepening ties with Australia while addressing thousands of members of the Indian diaspora at the ‘Melbourne Meets Modi’ event at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium.

Referring to Operation Sindoor, PM Modi said the world had witnessed the capability and credibility of India’s defence platforms. He said the strikes targeted terrorist hideouts, but their echoes were heard across the world.

The Prime Minister said the rising global demand for Indian-made products reflected the country’s expanding manufacturing capabilities and reinforced India’s emergence as a global production hub. He added that the government’s focus on domestic manufacturing had strengthened economic growth and strategic self-reliance.

Highlighting India’s progress, PM Modi said the country is preparing to become one of the world’s top three economies. He also cited achievements including the Chandrayaan mission’s landing near the Moon’s South Pole, rapid 5G expansion, digital transformation reaching 480 million people and humanitarian initiatives such as Operation Sagar and evacuations from conflict zones.

PM Modi described the Indian community as a key force behind stronger India-Australia relations, saying Melbourne’s ‘Little India’ and ‘Mini India’ reflected India’s vibrant culture abroad. He credited the diaspora for strengthening bilateral ties and noted that this was his third visit to Australia in 12 years.

The Prime Minister also highlighted expanding cooperation in trade, defence, critical minerals, clean energy, space, science, technology and innovation, including Tata’s planned satellite launch using an Australian rocket.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who attended the event, described the Indian diaspora as the ‘living bridge’ between the two nations and said Australia and India are ‘close partners and even closer friends’.
