Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday highlighted the growing popularity of ‘Bhajan Clubbing’ among India’s Gen Z while praising the Indian community in Australia for staying deeply connected to its cultural and spiritual roots.
Addressing the ‘Melbourne Meets Modi’ community event at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, PM Modi said he had learnt that weekends for the Indian diaspora in Australia are centred around faith, spirituality and community activities. He referred to events such as Lord Satyanarayan Katha, Ardas at Gurudwaras, children’s Bhangra and Bharatanatyam performances, and cricket tournaments as examples of the community’s strong cultural engagement.
The Prime Minister also noted that the Indian Film Festival would begin in Melbourne in the coming days and extended his best wishes for its successful organisation. He said the growing participation of the diaspora in cultural and community events reflected its enduring connection with India.
PM Modi said 21st-century India is working towards becoming a developed nation and follows a ‘Grow More, Achieve More’ vision. He said every fulfilled dream inspires new aspirations and stronger resolve among the country’s 1.4 billion people, describing India as a nation driven by ambition and optimism.
Thousands of people gathered at Marvel Stadium to welcome the Prime Minister, chanting ‘Modi, Modi’ as he arrived alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
The enthusiastic reception created an electric atmosphere at the venue, which has hosted several iconic events, with members of the Indian diaspora making up the majority of the audience.
