NYC Hit by Power Outage, Resembling ‘Leave The World Behind’ Scene

Power outages are frightful, but they become even more terrifying after watching “Leave The World Behind.” There was a power outage that caused flickering lights and stalled elevators for a brief period, leaving the city that never sleeps in complete darkness. The city was plunged into chaos when a power outage occurred at a Con Edison facility in Brooklyn.

Just before Thursday midnight, witnesses saw black smoke above the facility, signaling the start of a brief power outage. Following the incident, commuters on the subway faced a delay in their travels and New Yorkers were stuck underground for up to 20 minutes, stuck in elevators.

There were reports from several neighborhoods with blinking traffic lights, including Downtown Brooklyn, Lower Manhattan, the Upper East Side, and Long Island City. Everything at Grand Central Station stopped working, including the escalators and elevators.

When Con Edison responded, they said that a fault on a high-tension transmission line at their Brooklyn substation was the cause of the outage. “Customers may have experienced a dip or surge in power at that time,” the company said. While they look into it, crews are trying to make the required repairs.”

While Con Edison crews launched an investigation into the power line fault, the New York City Police Department and Fire Department were called in to control the chaotic scenes.

Social media was used by New Yorkers to discuss their experiences and draw connections between the outage and the new Netflix movie “Leave The World Behind.” The movie’s plot, which involved two families trying to survive in a collapsing world after strangers interrupted their vacation, struck an unsettling parallel with current affairs.

Someone commented, “I was halfway through the new Netflix film Leave the World Behind when there was a power outage in NYC.” My wife and I are completely freaked out.” Another person commented, “Not fucking with no power outages in new york after watching leave the world behind, be so fr.”
