US Presidential Polls: Nikki Haley, DeSantis Endorses Trump At Republican Convention

Days after former President Trump survived an assassination attempt, his former rivals for the Republican party presidential nomination, Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, endorsed him for the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

The endorsement from Trump’s former adversaries came on the second day of the Republican Party’s convention, showcasing unity following the attempt on Trump’s life at a Pennsylvania rally that injured his right ear.

“You don’t have to agree with Trump 100% of the time to vote for him,” said Haley, a former U.N. ambassador and South Carolina governor, after taking the stage to a mix of cheers and boos. “Take it from me.”

DeSantis, the conservative Florida governor whose campaign faltered early in the year, received a warm welcome from the crowd as he criticized Biden, 81, as too old for the job.

Many speeches at the Republican Party convention remained focused on Trump’s anti-immigration rhetoric and Biden’s perceived inability to lead the nation due to his age and cognitive abilities.

The four-day convention will culminate with Trump’s prime-time address on Thursday when he will formally accept the party’s nomination to face Biden in a rematch of 2020.

Challenges for Biden are far from over

In contrast, the Democratic Party appears divided over President Joe Biden’s candidacy following the June 27 debate disaster. Many party members and officials expressed concern about Biden’s candidacy as the debate raised serious questions about his abilities.

However, President Biden made it clear after a meeting with his family following the debate that he intends to run for the presidency and has no plans to withdraw from the Democratic Party candidacy.

In his first campaign speech since the assassination attempt, Biden told Black voters in Las Vegas on Tuesday that he was “all in” for reelection, once again dismissing calls from some Democrats to step aside.
