Iran Warns Of Wider Retaliation As US Threatens Strikes On Key Infrastructure

Iran on Monday warned of significantly more devastating and widespread retaliation if its civilian infrastructure continues to be targeted, escalating tensions with the United States.

A spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said that any repeat of attacks on civilian sites would trigger a far more extensive offensive response.

The warning follows remarks by US President Donald Trump, who earlier threatened to destroy Iran’s civilian infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.

In a related development, Ali Akbar Velayati, adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, indicated that the resistance front could target the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. He suggested that disruptions to global energy flows and trade could occur rapidly if tensions escalate further.

The Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, remains a critical route for shipping between the Atlantic, Indian Ocean and Mediterranean regions.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, President Trump outlined the possibility of large-scale strikes on Iranian infrastructure if Tehran does not comply with US demands. He warned that key assets such as power plants and bridges could face widespread destruction within a set timeline.

The US President also indicated that Iran could lose major infrastructure across the country if it fails to act, underscoring the scale of potential military action.

The developments come amid heightened tensions over vital energy routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the hardline stance, Trump suggested that Iranian leadership may still be open to negotiations, reflecting a strategy that combines pressure with the possibility of dialogue. He maintained confidence in the US approach, asserting control over the situation even as geopolitical risks continue to rise.
