Iran has indicated it may escalate its military response if hostilities with the United States and Israel continue. Officials have suggested that they could deploy more advanced capabilities in the ongoing conflict.
An official from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Hossein Mohebbi, said, “We have not yet used our capabilities, and if the war continues, we will unveil capabilities that the enemy has no idea about,” according to reports.
Reinforcing this position, Defence Ministry spokesperson Reza Talaeinik stated that Iran’s armed forces are strengthening their operational readiness. He said the country possesses adequate missiles, drones, weapons and ammunition to sustain both offensive and defensive actions in the future.
The sharp exchange of statements comes after the United States announced a blockade targeting Iranian ports and coastal regions.
US President Donald Trump warned that strict measures will target Iranian vessels approaching the restricted zone.
“Iran’s Navy is laying at the bottom of the sea, completely obliterated — 158 ships. What we have not hit are their small number of, what they call, ‘fast attack ships’, because we did not consider them much of a threat,” he stated.
The US President added, “Warning: If any of these ships come anywhere close to our BLOCKADE, they will be immediately ELIMINATED, using the same system of kill that we use against the drug dealers on boats at Sea.”
Iran also criticised the blockade move. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei made the remarks on X. He said the US action amounted to a ‘revenge of choice’ against the global economy.
Diplomatic efforts to ease tensions have so far failed to yield results. Delegations from Iran and the United States held talks in Islamabad over the weekend.
The talks followed a ceasefire declared after 40 days of conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. The negotiations did not lead to any agreement.
