Indian Parliamentary Delegation In Washington Reaffirms Anti-Terror Commitment; Highlights ‘Operation Sindoor’

An all-party Indian parliamentary delegation, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, is on an official visit to Washington to engage in strategic discussions with senior members of the US Congress.

The visit further aims to reinforce India’s firm stand against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and foster stronger bilateral ties.

During their engagements, the delegation met with leaders of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, including Republican Chair Brian Mast and Democratic Ranking Member Gregory Meeks.

The meetings underscored a shared commitment to combat terrorism and strengthen the US-India relationship.

The delegation briefed American lawmakers on the success of ‘Operation Sindoor’, a recent counter-terror operation, describing it as a defining moment in India’s approach to cross-border threats.

The Indian Embassy in Washington stated that the operation represents a ‘new normal’ in the country’s counterterrorism strategy.

The US lawmakers unequivocally condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, expressing condolences and voicing strong support for India’s counterterrorism efforts.

Strong Bipartisan Support

Congressman Ro Khanna and Rich McCormick, co-chairs of the House India Caucus, and Senators Mark Warner and John Cornyn, co-chairs of the Senate India Caucus, also held discussions with the Indian delegation.

Senator Cornyn called the meeting ‘a good exchange on the US-India relationship’, while Congressman Khanna reiterated bipartisan backing for dismantling terrorist networks based in Pakistan.

Tharoor expressed gratitude for the solidarity, stating, “Great to meet you and your @SenateForeign colleagues, @SenMcCormickPA ! We greatly valued all of you finding the time for us on a busy day and expressing your solidarity with our fight against terrorism. We also appreciated your enthusiasm for greater and stronger cooperation between our countries on a wide range of areas. The potential is unlimited !

The delegation’s schedule includes policy discussions, a panel event at the National Press Club, and a briefing for the Indian diaspora.

The visit further aims to deepen strategic cooperation, build bipartisan consensus, and present India’s firm stance on terrorism to key American stakeholders.

Former Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, is accompanying the team to provide diplomatic insights and facilitate engagements.

The delegation includes MPs from multiple parties: Shambhavi Choudhary (LJP-Ram Vilas), Sarfaraz Ahmad (JMM), Milind Murli Deora (Shiv Sena), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhubaneswar Kalita, and Tejasvi Surya (BJP), and GM Harish Balayogi (TDP).

Their unified message reflects national consensus on fighting terrorism and strengthening global partnerships.

As part of the concluding leg of their visit, the Indian delegation will continue meetings with members of the US Congress, administration officials, think tanks, and media, reaffirming India’s unwavering commitment to peace, security, and democratic values.
