A large gathering of the Indian diaspora welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a community programme in Auckland on Saturday.
The attendees created an enthusiastic atmosphere at the venue by celebrating the occasion with music, dance and patriotic slogans while dressed in traditional Indian attire during the Prime Minister’s visit.
Members of Indian communities from across New Zealand performed cultural programmes representing different regions of India and showcased the country’s rich cultural diversity.
Many attendees expressed their delight at welcoming the Prime Minister and described his visit as a memorable occasion for the Indian diaspora.
The audience filled the venue with chants of ‘Modi, Modi’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. At the same time, Indian tricolours and New Zealand flags created a vibrant display of the enduring friendship between the two nations.
Reacting to the reception, PM Modi said the affection shown by the Indian community had deeply touched him. He praised the diaspora for preserving India’s cultural traditions overseas and for continuing to strengthen the long-standing people-to-people relationship between India and New Zealand.
In a post, the Prime Minister highlighted the cultural performances, which featured folk traditions from Punjab and Tamil Nadu, a blend of Carnatic and Hindustani classical music, and a stirring rendition of Vande Mataram. He said such performances reflected the richness of India’s heritage.
PM Modi also applauded the Naad Vocal Ensemble, stating that music has the power to unite people and that the performance beautifully captured the warmth of India-New Zealand relations.
