Sanjeev Singla
Sanjeev Singla, India’s Ambassador to Israel, hoisted the tricolour on Tuesday to commemorate India’s 77th anniversary of independence.
Despite the fact that it was a working day, about 300 Indians from across Israel attended the Independence Day event, including members of the Indian Jewish community, Indian students, and NRIs.
Ambassador Singla raised the national flag and emphasized India’s growing connections with Israel, with India becoming Israel’s second-largest commercial partner in the previous fiscal year, surpassing the USD 10 billion mark in bilateral trade for the first time.
“To this end, an MoU on industrial research and development cooperation was also signed between the two countries in May”, the Indian envoy stated, emphasising the two countries’ strengthened cooperation.
Sanjeev Singla also addressed issues in the defence industry, emphasizing India’s aim for indigenous defence manufacturers and inviting Israeli defence businesses to expand their joint venture investments.
He cited a phone conversation between the two countries’ defence ministers, during which they discovered areas of partnership in high-end technologies.
This year has seen several high-level Israeli visits to India, including those by Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, Economy Minister Nir Barkat, and Foreign Minister Eli Cohen.
During Cohen’s visit, Singla noted, a framework agreement on the facilitation of temporary employment of employees in specific labour markets in Israel for the recruitment of construction workers and carers from India was initiated.
“This agreement will allow skilled Indian workers to work in Israel in the sectors of construction and nursing”, he explained.
The Indian envoy also praised the Indian diaspora and Jewish community, describing them as powerful links in the building of Indo-Israel ties.
