Swiss President Guy Parmelin To Visit India From October 5-7 At PM Modi’s Invitation

Swiss President Guy Parmelin will visit India from October 5 to 7 at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation, with talks set to focus on strengthening bilateral ties across several areas.

PM Modi and Parmelin will meet on October 5 to review cooperation in trade and investment, science and technology, innovation, mobility, culture and people-to-people ties. Regional and global developments, along with coordination in multilateral forums, will form part of the discussions.

President Droupadi Murmu will receive Parmelin and host a banquet in his honour, while External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is scheduled to meet the Swiss President.

Parmelin will lead a delegation comprising senior government officials as well as business and academic representatives. His programme will include meetings with Indian government officials, business leaders and representatives involved in scientific cooperation.

The visit will coincide with the second India-EFTA Prosperity Summit on October 7.

Government and business representatives will discuss investment opportunities and new areas of economic cooperation.

The India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), which came into force on October 1, 2025, provides a framework for expanding economic relations between India and Switzerland. More than 330 Swiss companies currently operate in India.

The trip will be Parmelin’s first State Visit to India. He visited New Delhi in February 2026 for the AI Impact Summit, where he met PM Modi and discussed economic relations, trade, investment and technology cooperation.

The two leaders met again in June during PM Modi’s visit to Switzerland, focusing on ways to deepen bilateral relations.

The Swiss government has described the upcoming visit as an opportunity to advance cooperation in economic affairs, education, research, innovation and migration.
