India, New Zealand Strengthen Counter-Terrorism, Cyber Security Cooperation

India and New Zealand have agreed to strengthen cooperation on counter-terrorism, cyber security and emerging security challenges following bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon in Auckland.

Both leaders also pledged to enhance engagement through regional and multilateral forums to support international peace, security and resilience.

According to a joint statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the two Prime Ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to tackling terrorism in all its forms, strengthening cyber security and expanding dialogue on security-related issues. They agreed to explore closer collaboration through regional and international platforms to address evolving global challenges.

PM Modi and PM Luxon strongly condemned terrorism, including cross-border terrorism, and denounced the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, and near Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10, 2025. They stressed that those responsible must be brought to justice and called for a zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism.

The leaders also urged the disruption of terror financing networks, elimination of safe havens and dismantling of terrorist infrastructure, including online platforms used for extremist activities. They welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement to establish a Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism, which will facilitate greater information-sharing and institutional cooperation between the two countries.

Both countries pledged closer cooperation against organised crime, narcotics, cybercrime and terrorism, while strengthening law enforcement ties.

PM Modi and PM Luxon also reaffirmed their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific and closer cooperation through ASEAN-led regional forums.
