The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Thursday that it conducted a targeted attack on the commander of Hezbollah’s drone unit in Beirut, firing three missiles. The IDF did not disclose further details about the strikes. However, Lebanese TV channel al-Jadeed reported that an Israeli airstrike hit a residential building near al-Qaem mosque in Dahieh, injuring at least three civilians.
On the same day, the IDF stated that its 7th Armored Brigade concluded a military drill a few kilometers from the Lebanese border, simulating a ground operation in Lebanon. The drill focused on maneuvering and combat in mountainous terrain, enhancing troops’ operational and logistical readiness for various scenarios.
This military activity follows a proposal by France at a United Nations Security Council meeting for a 21-day ceasefire in Lebanon, aimed at facilitating negotiations. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcomed the proposal, but Israel denied any agreement to a ceasefire with Hezbollah or Lebanese political factions.
Israel has ramped up its attacks on Lebanon, marking the most extensive military action since 2006. On Monday and Tuesday alone, more than 550 people died and over 1,800 were injured due to Israeli strikes. The IDF resumed intensive airstrikes on Wednesday evening, targeting eastern and southern Lebanon, conducting around 70 raids in areas such as Baalbek and Western Bekaa.
Since Monday, the Israeli military has attacked over 2,000 locations in Lebanon, while Lebanese Environment Minister Nasser Yassin reported that the bombardment has displaced more than 150,000 residents in the last 72 hours. The escalating conflict has raised fears of a full-scale war, potentially drawing in other regional powers, according to Xinhua news agency.
