A Hindu prayer centred on harmony and global peace was presented at the White House during the National Day of Prayer celebrations, highlighting religious inclusion as the United States prepares to mark 250 years of independence.
According to BAPS, a volunteer representing the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha took part in the gathering and led a traditional Hindu invocation before attendees.
The speaker began by inviting the audience into a moment of reflection, asking participants to close their eyes and fold their hands before reciting a series of peace chants, including ‘Om Shanti Shanti Shanti’.
The prayer focused on peace throughout the universe and nature. It referred to harmony in the sky, space, earth, water, and among all living beings.
The speaker also prayed for environmental balance and extended wishes for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being for everyone.
During the address, the BAPS community conveyed gratitude for its inclusion in the event. The message also acknowledged the Swaminarayan Akshardham in Robbinsville, New Jersey, and spiritual leader Guru Hari Mohan Swami Maharaj.
Later, BAPS Public Affairs shared a social media message. The organisation said it felt honoured to take part in the White House observance.
The post stated that such occasions reinforce the importance of faith, service, and shared principles in strengthening communities.
Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump issued a National Day of Prayer message. He praised America’s long-standing connection to religious faith and prayer.
In his remarks, Trump said trust in God shaped the country’s history. He also reflected on the country approaching the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The US President also referred to the role of prayer during the US struggle for independence. He noted that the Second Continental Congress once called for a national day of fasting and prayer to seek divine guidance and protection.
The United States observes the National Day of Prayer each year. The event brings together faith leaders and communities from diverse religious backgrounds for collective prayer and reflection.
