On Thursday, Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah group stated that it fired over 60 rockets at Israeli military positions in retaliation for overnight air attacks in the country’s east.
Israel and Hamas ally Hezbollah have exchanged almost daily fire since the Palestinian group’s October 7 attack on southern Israel, which launched the eight-month-old Gaza war.
In a statement, the group said, “Hezbollah soldiers launched a missile attack with more than 60 Katyusha rockets against multiple Israeli military locations in the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights”.
“The strikes were in response to the Israeli enemy’s attacks last night on the Bekaa region in eastern Lebanon’s Baalbek area”, the group continued.
On Wednesday, Hezbollah announced that it had launched drones at a military base near the Israeli city of Tiberias, in one of its deepest attacks into Israel since cross-border clashes began on October 8.
It came after Israel stated on Tuesday that it had killed one of Hezbollah’s field commanders in southern Lebanon.
At least 413 people have been killed in Lebanon as a result of cross-border combat, mostly militants but also including dozens of civilians.
Israel claims that 14 soldiers and 10 civilians were killed on its side of the border.
Tens of thousands of people have been displaced across the border.
