Five Bodies Recovered From Sunken Sicily Yacht; Search for Missing Passenger Continues

Five bodies have been recovered from the hull of the Bayesian Sicily yacht that sank in a severe storm. However, the search is still ongoing for one last passenger who remains unaccounted for.

The yacht, a 56-meter vessel, was anchored near Porticello on Sicily’s southern coast when it encountered the storm on Monday. Authorities reported that a powerful waterspout struck the yacht, snapping its main mast and causing it to capsize before sinking rapidly.

The recovery efforts have faced challenges due to severe weather and the unusual position of the sunken yacht. Divers, working in 12-minute shifts, have struggled to access the ship’s interior. They have been assisted by a remote-controlled undersea search robot.

On Wednesday, divers first discovered two bodies inside the vessel. Later in the day, they found two more bodies. According to news reports, a fifth body was recovered later that same day. The search continues as authorities work to locate the remaining missing passenger.

Of the 22 passengers and crew members on board, 15 were rescued promptly. Eight of these survivors were rushed to local hospitals for medical attention. Additionally, the body of one crew member was found near the site where the yacht sank.

The incident has caused widespread concern and ongoing efforts are focused on ensuring that all missing individuals are found and accounted for.
