CBI Submits Status Report To Supreme Court On Kolkata Doctor’s Rape-Murder Case

On Thursday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) presented its status report to the Supreme Court regarding the probe into the rape and murder of a female doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata.

The report reveals several crucial gaps in the investigation.

The Supreme Court’s division bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, is currently overseeing the case.

This hearing marks the second session at the Chief Justice’s bench, drawing significant attention to the proceedings.

According to sources, one key issue identified is the delay between the discovery of the victim’s body in the hospital seminar hall on 9 August and the subsequent notification to the local police.

Investigators are scrutinizing why hospital authorities, including the former principal, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, took so long to report the incident.

Dr. Ghosh has been under intense questioning by the CBI since last Friday, with sessions lasting up to 14 hours.

On Thursday, Dr. Ghosh continued his seventh consecutive day of interrogation at the CBI’s Salt Lake office, alongside a summoned appearance of his driver.

Another significant missing link involves identifying the first person who discovered the body.

Despite extensive questioning of both medical and non-medical staff at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, the identity of this individual remains unclear.

Inconsistent statements from witnesses have hindered the investigation, with officials believing that pinpointing this person could resolve several unanswered questions.

The body of the woman doctor was found under mysterious circumstances at the hospital on 9 August.

The case has sparked widespread protests both in Kolkata and across the country.

The CBI continues its investigation as it seeks to fill these gaps and bring clarity to this high-profile case.
