‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Meets ‘Yashil Makon’: PM Modi, President Mirziyoyev Plant Tree In Tashkent

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reinforced their shared environmental commitment by planting a sapling at the Presidential Palace in Tashkent.

The tree-planting ceremony brought together India’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and Uzbekistan’s ‘Yashil Makon’ initiative.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the joint gesture reflected the two countries’ resolve to promote a greener and more sustainable future.

The ceremony, however, followed high-level discussions between PM Modi and President Mirziyoyev at the Kuksaroy Residence.

The leaders reviewed ways to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, industry, regional ties and culture.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George were among the Indian officials present during the talks.

The Uzbek President’s Press Service said both sides agreed to take India-Uzbekistan relations to a new level through greater cooperation across multiple sectors.

PM Modi’s visit has included several cultural engagements. Earlier, he attended a yoga session involving 52 practitioners from Uzbekistan and interacted with participants.

Six of the practitioners belonged to the Yoga Federation of Uzbekistan and had represented their country at the First World Yogasana Championship 2026 in Ahmedabad in June.

PM Modi arrived in Uzbekistan on Saturday for a two-day state visit.

President Mirziyoyev personally received him at the airport, a gesture the Prime Minister described as reflecting the close and growing friendship between the two countries.

The visit comes as India and Uzbekistan have elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with both sides seeking to broaden cooperation across economic, security, cultural and people-to-people ties.
